What are the benefits of day care?
Whether a few hours a week or a few days a month, day care can enhance your dog’s quality of life. Consider these benefits:
- Companionship – dogs are social creatures who enjoy personal attention and positive interaction.
- Physical exercise – exercise and activity are important to a dog’s overall health and wellness.
- Positive reinforcement – rewards (and belly rubs) enhance a dog’s emotional well-being and build confidence and trust.
- Mental stimulation – doing new things stimulates a dog’s mind and may help relieve anxiety, boredom and undesirable behavior.
Is day care right for me and my dog?
Perhaps you’ve never considered day care for your dog. We’d like to change that and encourage you (and your dog) to come visit and give it a go. We have a highly attentive and dog-loving staff and a very thorough intake process. All dogs are evaluated and temperament tested before participating in any of our day care activities. We take our promise to you and your dog very seriously, and we’re committed to making sure every dog has fun and stays safe while in our care.
We’re also conveniently located off I-40, near downtown, the airport and many of the city’s largest employers. We currently offer day care Mon-Sat, from 7am to 7pm at very affordable rates. You can drop off your best friend on your way to work or that busy day ahead, then pick them up on your way home. It’s easy to get started.
A typical day at the ranch.
While it feels like “home on the range” here at Good Dog Pet Ranch, don’t worry – your dog won’t be running wild with dozens of dogs in an open field. Instead, your dog will play and interact with other social dogs in our indoor and outdoor play areas under the careful supervision of our staff. The play areas are outfitted with dog-friendly toys, playground equipment, secure fencing and plenty of fresh water. We’ll soon have webcams so you can watch your dog play.
Dogs are introduced to play groups based on their age, size, activity level and temperament. Small dogs play with other small dogs, and larger dogs play with larger dogs. We keep the play groups themselves small (5-10 dogs) which allows our staff to give individual attention to each dog and better direction to the entire group. Each play group has a human leader so the dogs know who’s in charge which helps them feel safe, secure and comfortable. Dogs who are new to group play or better suited for other day care options, will enjoy one-on-one play with a member of our staff and a variety of activities and games during the day. Our day care could be called “play care” and your dog will get plenty of both.
In between play sessions, the dogs will rest in a comfortable, climate controlled setting inside individual suites. This helps them calm down and relax. Dogs, just like our kids and grandkids, can become cranky, overstimulated and tired from all the activity and exercise. This is why we build in a noon-time nap and other rest periods throughout the day. It’s another way we keep the dogs healthy and safe.
Dogs who are lodging with us, and have completed a day care evaluation, can take part in our day care program too. This added service gives our lodging guests even more activity and exercise during their stay.
